As good as it is, sometimes the mind, body and soul needs a little break from the devil’s music… Man needs a little downtime to appreciate the finer points of 140 decibels of sound in the eardrums…Here’s a couple tracks from some artists I listen to in my brief moments of sanity. But, don’t listen to em too hard because they can be kinda dangerous….You might start suddenly re-evaluating the benefits of 7 in the morning warehouse parties in the abandoned industrial district of MTL or the beautiful symmetry of a song that others might call pure fucking noise…

The First track is by is French-born singer and political activist, Manu Chao… This was basically to my travelling years what Justice was to my last two years of partying in MTL. Every last hippie, even the most jaded, dreadlocked, seen it all done it all, I only listen to Mongolian goatherd music, pretentious fuck was blasting him…. because just like Justice there’s no denying that they both do what they do well…

The next track is extra soft, maybe only the girls should even bother…. I found Lykke Li back in October 07 when I was searching for some nice candlelight making love music… and instantly fell in love with this Scandanavian beauty…. Now she’s consistently in the top ten artists downloaded on Elbos and Hype Machine and making serious waves

And lastly Ill put up Vampire Weekend’s - Kids Don’t Stand a chance…. Not really that into their music but this song is pretty good, fits the theme of this post and more importantly fits the theme of this blog because it sounds crazy dropped into an intense DJ set … I first heard A-trak drop some rmx or mash-up or something at a show of his and the crowd went nuts…. Couldn’t find it and had to rely on my own mash-up with Crookers “Love”….Anyone knows the track I’d love to have it!

For the sheer amount of times a Dj has told me that some rendition of Fake Blood’s Mars was there go-to track in the past couple of months its kind of strange I didn’t really play it out or throw it up here…I’ve now decided to fix the error of my ways on both accounts…. Hope I’m not to late!
Two remixes/edits….Two different feels…. Dave Nada’s is definately the more accessible lose your shit on the dancefloor straight up club banger…. But I’m kind of feeling the Player Player mix

Last weekend we started off our new weekly at the Main…. The place popped and both the rooftop patio and bar and the downstairs rooms we’re packed….The girls we’re falling over by 11:30 from the open bar… The men we’re popping bottles like rockstars (Which actually was no big deal with bottles being a ridiculous $80)….and Mr Hatchmatik kept the whole thing moving, murdering the dancefloor all night…
… This week we’re back again this time with Montreal legend DJ Spaz killing the upstairs patio and bar…
Spaz has been spinning for over 12 years in MTL and many of my favourite DJs have listed him as a serious mentor and inspiration… Its no surprise… Not only can this guy kill a dancefloor, but talk to him for ten minutes and there’s no mistaking that this is a genuinely swell guy…
And probably most importantly for a veteran DJ Spaz is keeping it fresh and avant-garde….The mix found below is from the summer but all of the tracks are banging and I loved throwing it on and hearing it break out with Chew-Fu’s Man of my city…. Our anthem of the summer!
Here’s what Spaz had to say about the mix:
“The interesting thing about this mix is all the different sources I used to get the music (blogs, forums, myspace pages, etc). It ain’t record digging like the old days aka 3 years ago, but the end result is similar. I think that the producers who remixed or produced the tracks on this mix have an original and futuristic sound, which is what drew me towards their music in the first place. Also surely many DJs might jump on some of these tracks eventually but they’ll have to hear it on a mix like this first.”
Its kind of interesting to hear the perspective of searching the internet rather than crate digging from a DJ whose been around for a while…. I have actually never looked through one record crate in my entire life, but have spent hundreds of hours searching blogs and forums… Its a brave new world kids
