 Lady Gaga Nude

Two big tracksssss…..

Poker face was undeniably the most annoying song of the year for me…. I fucking hate that song with every ounce of my soul….. And I actually like Lady Gaga…. I think she’s on the forefront of bringing electro into the mainstream…. but that song…. fuck that song…. Until — surprise, surprise –  we get this ridiculously good updated version…. Kid Cudi, Kanye, and Common drop easy breezy summertime verses over a simple piano melody and drums finished off with some “good ol scratches” (Kanye’s words not mine) by MTL legend A-Trak….. the best part of the track? Undoubtedly the hauntingly beautiful chorus….Lady Gaga stripped down sans auto-tune or any effects…. the result is some kind of wonderful….

Then we have this new Justice Remix….I like it…. I think you can kind of see with the U2 remix and this one that Justice has found their remix formula sort of like MSTRKFT has….. Is that a bad thing? I don’t know…. I like the track so fuck it

Laidback Luke and Friends

 Laidback Luke

I have a bunch of major synth-driven tracks to post up in the next coming days/weeks, so I thought I’d start by giving you guys a little change of pace.  Laidback Luke, of the Netherlands, is one of the most respected House DJs in Europe.  Recently, he has teamed up to collaborate with A-Trak and the red hot Diplo to put out two tracks that are hard to define but definitely club rockers.

Collaborations like this are becoming more and more common in our crazy alcohol fueled club music world.  A-Trak recently commented on this in DJ Mag saying, “now you’re seeing just everybody, all those worlds converge, so as far as where dance music is probably going to go, it’s hard to tell.”  Electro bangers with ear-bleeding synths and pounding basslines are still dominant in my musical collection, but its always good to expand your musical horizons.

She Loves Everybody (Steve Aoki Remix) – Chester French

Chester French EP Cover

Steve Aoki has been rocking the scene for years now, throwing down legendary DJ scenes all around the world.  Having already conquered the world from behind the decks, I predict that 09 is the year where Aoki hits the studio and churns out a series of bangers.  This cut is a remix for the band Chester French, who are currently signed to Pharell’s Star Trak records.  If you get the chance to listen to the original, you can see that Aoki really flipped this track on its head.  The lyrics shine through on this track, telling the story of well, “that” girl.  And for those of you who saw Aoki open for the Bloody Beetroots earlier this month, that Kanye West collaboration/remix that blew up the SAT is apparently releasing soon.  I’ll keep my eye out for it, and try and get it up here as soon as I have it.

Amanda Frehr-Smith

Ever since seeing old-Hollywood glamour in movies like “Gone With the Wind,” I have been passionate about fashion. In my final two years at McGill University, I was able to combine this love with my interest in green-living through the production of ECOuture, an eco-friendly fashion show. It is so easy to be sustainable without giving up style, and I aim to continue this perspective here at yourKloset.
