Patrice from NROTB sent me over this sick remix they did for Major Lazer which is really dope… holds true to the dancehall/tribal rythmic feel of the original project…. adding some crazy drum rhythms, carnivalesque samples a good uptempo feel which seem to be a hallmark of their new sound these days
the other track by london(ON)/toronto DJS Golden Gloves goes off on a wonkier tangent but is also prettyy cool… I can’t wait for the Jamaican Cammando known as Major Lazer’s album to drop…. from collabs with crookers to Mr. Vegas… its going to be bananassss…. They’re going to be touring in the fall with crookers and word is they’ll have some kind of crazy live thingamajiggy happening… should be sick!

When I was a kid my parents only travelled to 3 places, NY every 2 weeks till I was in my late teens, church, and the local supermarket. Yes believe it or not, the latter 2 were considered field trips. I told my mom that my dream was to visit 2 places, London and Tokyo. Who would have known I would have lived in Tokyo and have a sister, whom I visit often living in London. My mom laughed at me (no she wasn’t an abusive parent who never supported her kids dreams). My mom came from a very simple background where if her kids had a family and a goat then they led a good life. Go figure.
Anyways, I knew I had an extensive family all over the world, but nowhere of interest. First thing I did was joining every student association I could join at university. Yes, I was the only black guy in the Vietnamese Student Association. I can go to Ho Chi Mihn and be called uncle by my friend’s kids. This does have its downfalls; you always show up with presents.

So I forgot just how great this thing called sunlight is, after the past year in MTL. I’ve been thinking about how to best bring some of the club culture to Hawaii, and its just dawned on me that I have to throw parties during the day. So I’ve been trying to find some tracks with real summertime vibes and I found this gem from Bag Raiders. I can’t think of another song that’s a better laidback summer dance track. The second track is by French Electro-Rock band, “Make The Girl Dance.” Its a bit of a girl song, but the key to any good pool party is to get the girls moving first, or the party will just be a bunch of people getting sunburnt together.
