Green Day
Fashion and beauty go hand-in-hand; the right make-up, hairstyle, etc. can make everyone look amazing from head-to-toe. Over the past few years many cosmetic companies have made an effort to turn eco, making green-living all the more beautiful. Companies such as Aveda, Cargo, Physicians Formula, Lush, and J.R Watkins can be found at boutiques, drug stores, and local department stores.
Aveda: Aveda products are amazing. Their make-up is beautiful and a far cry from those aerosol-can hairsprays that leave your hair looking like a birds nest. They use wind energy to power their production facilities, recycle their containers to create less waste, and their botanical ingredients leave you smelling amazing.
Their look for the 2009 spring/summer runway shows for Rodarte inspired the make-up palette I am currently obsessed with: natural, chic, and feminine colours that pop but don’t overwhelm you.
Physicians Formula and Cargo: Although they are not completely green, like many cosmetic companies Physicians Formula (PF) and Cargo have developed “green” lines.
PF has an organic line with bronzers, blush, mascara, eye liner and tinted moisturizers, and Cargos PlantLove lipstick line comes in a box embedded with wildflower seeds that you can actually plant!
Lush: Lush products are all vegetarian or sometimes vegan, and try to reduce the amount of packaging and production processes needed for all of their products. They have a plethora of products and fragrances for lips, hair, feet, skin, etc.
With flavours like “sex bomb,” “honey bee,” “golden slumbers,” “blackberry,” “hot java,” and “supernova,” their bath bombs are a green indulgence. Their fizz leaves you smelling amazing.
J.R Watkins: I discovered Watkins products when I was traveling west through Winnipeg. The products are at least 95% natural, and are made from sustainable and recyclable resources…not to mention that they smell delicious and leave your skin feeling great.

What’s Next for Boys Noize?
Since Alex Ridha aka Boys Noize, burst onto the scene with Oi Oi Oi in 2007, you couldn’t go anywhere in the dance world without hearing about him. The hipster crowd who was just discovering electro-house, quickly took a liking to him. The usually techno leaning city of Berlin, championed him as a home town hero. Ravers, looking for some hope of a revival of the 90s, heralded him as the second coming. With all this diverse support, Oi Oi Oi, along with Justice’s Cross, made 2007 a genesis of sorts for Electro-House.
So how does one follow up such a monumental album? This is a question that has certainly plagued every great artist from the Beatles to Daft Punk. The constant pressure can sometimes make artists change they’re style so much that the result is an album that is merely a shell in comparison to their past greatness. In other instances though that pressure can force the artist to come out with something amazing. This week samples of Boys Noize’s next two Singles, which will release as a double A-side, leaked. Based on these short samples, it seems the unibrowed one, is going to deliver yet again. Give them a listen and decide for yourself.

PROPER VILLAINS GETS IT IN
Its Thursday party people and you know what that means!!! I have the medicine for your swine flu right here. For those of you who don’t know Proper Villains allow me to properly (pun intended) introduce him. Representing NYC to the fullest Proper Villains have been pushing the late night party scene to the limit. Djing next to everyone from Trouble & Bass, to Scottie B to doing after hours with the awesome 4am Jess, DJ Jon S (Proper Villains) has been killing it. Production wise his style blends influences from house, hip hop, rave with a base in Baltimore Club. With previous releases on Southern Fried and new heavy bass trend setter Nightshifters, “Big Apple Bounce” follows suit with bass heavy productions with hard hitting drums and rolling bass lines.
You can expect to see this release digitally sometime in the near future, but for all you analog record nerds, you can start playing these evy chunes immediately. His 12″ is already available for sale on Flamin’ Hotz Records @ Turntable Lab and is getting great reviews. Lucky for you, I have the sexclusive in on bringing you the lead single as well as a super special bonus cut that didn’t make the record!!! The lead single “Get Down Method” does great justice to the classic Paul Johnson “Get Down” which I have always been a huge fan of & also takes on a Method Man melody. “Love Acid” is an 8 bit Nintendo style club track with a great old school flare!!! Both of these cuts are ready for the main room & you’ll catch me playing them this weekend in Brooklyn.

Definition of a Hipster
Hipster – One who possesses tastes, social attitudes, and opinions deemed cool by the cool. (Note: it is no longer recommended that one use the term “cool”; a Hipster would instead say “deck.”)
The Hipster walks among the masses in daily life but is not a part of them and shuns or reduces to kitsch anything held dear by the mainstream.
A Hipster ideally possesses no more than 2% body fat. This is an excerpt taken directly from the Hipster handbook. I love the hipster look it’s stylish and in my opinion it’s style that really defines a person not fashion.
So how do you get this look? Here are some of my picks that work ideally all available on reborn.com. From Greenwich Village to rue St. Denis in Montreal you’ll be guaranteed head turns in this candy stick or Bauhaus scarf by Henrik Vibskov throw it over an American Apparel basic for the tassels (girls) or for the Cronkite’s (boys)a Sebastien Tellier Tee which is going to be so deck (fresh)this summer.
People feel free to do something other than the skinny jean (although if you can’t resist please make them Nudies) opt for Africa pants by Henrik Vibskov work well in heels and a light denim jacket by Acne.
The hunter shorts also by Henrik Vibskov is a fresh breath of air especially if put with a tools tee by fifth ave shoe repair. So there you have it folks while your sipping on your Starbucks skinny latte remember; hipsters do not conform to mainstream fashion they take what’s mode fuse it together to create something that is totally them, totally deck and totally daring.
