Major Lazer Essential Mix

BBC Radio 1 (my favorite radio station in the world) has a 2 hour program called the Essential Mix which runs every saturday. Every major DJ in the dance music world has done a mix for this show. This week Major Lazer was invited to take over the decks, and Diplo and Switch split the show into two seperate one-hour sets. Their mixes cover ground from old school reggae to dubstep to some pretty new ravey House sounds. The download link for the mix is above, with the track list after the jump.

BARLETTA – PANTHER Remixes

Dj Barletta

Our boys over at Salacious Sounds did a recent remix competition for Saintwoods blogger extraordinaire Barletta for his ear bleeding Panther single.  The contest had tons of wicked submissions but when the dust cleared the last desperadoes standing were Toronto up and comers Zed’s Dead with their dub step influenced take on the track… Then the dust cleared again and it turns out there was a few others still sticking around.  Intelligenix, the label behind the contest decided there was so many good submissions they decided to release 6 of the 18 remixes as an EP with online distribution… I’m on my way out so I can’t post all 6 winners (and out of respect to intelligenix an Mr. Barletta ) but I’ll throw up the Zed’s Dead track which was pretty sick…. the refrain at 1:05 was nice and inspired…. I’m also going to throw up the Torro Torro remix which took a different direction and put out a big ol’ banger…. I wish I could find the Golden Gloves remix but alas I can’t so go cop that album when it comes out and listen to that one and the rest of the gems!!! Braaaaaaaaap

Final winners

Zeds Dead
Marvul
Torro torro
Curtis Wang
Big Blocks

NROTB - c-ch-cha mixtape

Patrice from NRTOB sent me over their new mix….its 56 minutes of upbeat bouncy party music…. Perfect for the car, pre-drink or playground…. Their new sound is upbeat and fresh but still keep that ravey sound and their recent remixes have been consistently on point… They’ve also got some new tracks on the way in a couple weeks and we’re really looking forward to that.

Bloody Beetroots – Awesome (Feat. The Cool Kids)

bloody beetroots - Awesome (feat. The Cool Kids)

The “Hoover” sound is back…. The legendary sound debuted on ‘Dominator’ by elder Dutch Djs Human Resource was a huge success, and was one of the first records ever to use the now ubiquitous “Hoover” effect, which was created using a Roland Alpha Juno 2 synthesiser.  Now the sound that put Herve‘s dominator remix on the map and more recently set soundsystems around the world on fire in the form of WARP 1.9 is about to burn down speakers once again…   In this incarnation we’ve got the Beetroots sampling it for the second time and The Cool Kids dropping their new age hip hop stylings all over the up-dated old school sound.  Is this sample regurgitation cheating?  Who cares it sounds dope.

TIME Festival Interview Series with Don Rimini

donrimini_timetopanicep

Many of you can probably remember losing your mind on some sweaty night back in 2007 when your favorite DJs in the world, (insert Busy P, MSTRKRFT, Crookers, 2 Many DJs, Digitalism, Tiga, DJ Mehdi, Sinden, Brodinski, A-Trak, Aaron Lacrate, Diplo here) first dropped the banger of all fidget bangers “Let me back up”.  My own experiences with the track have involved Aoki and Uffie hanging off of each other, both shirtless, dripping sweat and screaming their lungs out, a man getting so excited he started punching holes in the wall of a brand new club on its opening night and people literally hanging off the rafters at the infamous CODA club in montreal (RIP) and refusing to come down no matter how much the bouncers pleaded…. Well the man that spawned the remixes that blew up speakers and ears around the world has been hard at work ever since and with a never sleep attitude and a whole host of projects on the way you can expect the next lethal dose of RImini madness is just upon the horizon.
