In anticipation for the Bloody Beetroots show tonight, I’m posting up a teaser for the new EP from Sound Of Stereo. These two Belgians produce big, big tracks. Their past work has gotten support from all he big boys in the electro scene, but I think the Zipper EP showcases some of the best tracks they’ve produced so far. Check out the video above of them dropping ‘Zipper’ at I Love Techno. NUTS. Below is the minimix for the EP which includes ‘Zipper’, ‘Velcro’, and ‘Button.’ And don’t be surprised to hear the Beetroots drop their remix of Sound Of Stereo’s ‘Heads Up’ tonight! These two masked villains have been blowing up stereos and festivals across the world, murdering everything in their site and absolutely murdered it at our KILL HALLOWEEN party in Oct. With Christmas vendetta having just dropped along and a new trippy video for Romborama out now, The Bloody Beetroots are only picking up steam.
In preparation for the weekend to end all weekends, I have some Torro Torro exclusives for you guys. The above video was shot by my good friend Alex aka LUKEWARMGIRLS, who recently moved to Montreal. I met Alex outside of a Steve Aoki show last year, and invited him to come to last years Saintwoods.com launch party. I knew this guy was a party animal, but it wasn’t until this year that he started to show me some of his video skills. He’s been getting footage for a big project that the two of us are working on, so look out for more from this guy.
Yo-Ev of Torro Torro just sent me over two tracks, which you guys are getting the first jump on. I swear to god, everything they touch turns to gold. The first track I’m posting up is their masterful re-working of Autoerotique’s Gladiator. They add a dutch touch to the already massively rave-y tune, and I’m psyched to hear this being played out on Saturday.
The second track, is an original called “C-Word”, and it is one of the most exciting songs I’ve heard in a while. It takes me back to early last year when I was just discovering Electro-House and, it everything was so new and exciting. Love Thy Brother showed me this track last month and I called it “The Return of the Banger.” I hope this takes you guys back to a time not long ago when the banger ruled.
I Love Techno 2009 just ended over in Belgium, and it seems like everyone was bringing their A-Game and playing tons of unreleased tracks. Here’s one of the biggest stand outs from everything I’ve heard so far. I’ve heard rumblings about a Crookers and Soulwax collaboration, only to find out that Mixhell is also on the track. Absolute fire!!!
Now back to midterm studying, dealing with immigration BS, and preparation for Saturday’s show.
I think at this point most everyone realizes that the Bloody Beetroots show on Saturday is going to be the craziest night of our lives. The show they played at S.A.T. in April is still the craziest and best electro event I’ve ever attended. Obviously I’m most excited to see the Beetroots, but I’m also super excited that Toronto’s Torro Torro has been added to the bill. These guys have absolutely killed everything they have touched since they started releasing material this summer. Their remix of Barletta’s ‘Panther’ was my favorite track of the summer. Check out the stuff in their myspace player, linked above, cause its all absolute fire. One track not on the site is their remix of Esser’s ‘Work It Out’. It’s a straight electro banger and I cannot get enough of it. Enjoy the track and GET READY FOR SATURDAY! _Work It Out (Torro Torro Remix) Esser – Work It Out (Torro Torro Remix)
Haezer is a guy from Cape Town whose sound can be compared to the likes of The Bloody Beetroots. These next three songs definitely showcase Haezer’s potential for BIG SOUND.
I don’t know about you guys but I’m still a huge fan of the classic remix. Taking a mainstream pop tune and transforming it into an electro-filled club track is something I’ve always wanted to get into, even though I likely never will. The Mikey Mic remix of Empire State of Mind is pretty dirty, and the remix of Beyonce‘s tune, by none other than Alan Braxe, is also quite fun. Enjoy!
The UK’s Louis La Roche is one of my favourite artists at the moment. Alot of his originals have an definite french touch vibe, and in my opinion rank up there with some of the best tracks from that era. But he’s also put out a bunch of dope electro remixes, not least of which is one of ‘Set Me Free,’ that Phonat tune I posted a week ago. Here’s his funky rework of ‘Thriller,’ just in time for Halloween. Oh, and this guy’s ONLY 18.
Although I’ve recently acquired many a new banger, after an epic Thursday-Saturday run today is all about relaxing and attempting to get ready for Halloween weekend. Miami Horror is a recently expanded Australian electronic pop band. I would almost relate their sound to that of Fred Falke with melodic synth lines and and generally soothing compositions. Their new single ‘Sometimes’ is pretty close to the perfect electro-pop song in my eyes. The super catchy chorus has forced me to put this on repeat all morning.
