Brazilian husband and wife production team Mixhell recently did up Samantha Fu‘s ‘Theme From Discoteque’ with their trademark rock band inspired sound. This is a really great edit, and I highly recommend it. Also, you may know Samantha better as Soulwax/ 2 Many DJ’s. More like 2 many names.

There’s a chance you’ve already been able to tell, but I used to be a pretty serious sneaker head. In an indirect way, this caused me to first learn about DJ AM, himself a hardcore sneaker collector. His collection which is said to be over 900 deep, includes some of the rarest Nikes ever created, and you now have a chance to get your hands on some of his prized kicks.
The estate of Adam Goldstein, Undefeated, and Creative Visions Foundation, have set up the DJ AM Memorial Fund Sneaker Auction, with 100% of the profits going to the DJ AM Memorial Fund. The DJ AM Memorial Fund will continue Adam’s commitment to the issues of addiction and recovery. You can check out the entire auction here, I will certainly be putting in some bids for a few items.
SEIZE THE NIGHT! in Action at Wrongbar w/Designer Drugs
So basically today I thought I’d throw up some music from up-and comers and local talent… Both of the ones found below are from young Toronto producers
First is a remix of Heads will Roll by Captain Kick with a funky synth lead doing its part to give new meaning to the track… Since most of the remixes have only been using the actual track for the build-ups and then dropping into their own shit since obviously the stems aren’t to readily available this kind of bootleg is pretty cool
The next track is from Seize the Night! the Dj project of Torontonians Brandon Sprouse and Colin Sims. Brandon is also the man behind Smile-N-Pose one of my favourite photog blogs on the internet. The Duo take a really funky sample and turn it into a schizophrenic rollercoaster of an electro tune
Hopefully we’ll see a bunch from both of these producers in the future… Blap
I’m writing to you from the Charles De Galle airport in Paris en route back from the UAE. What’s so good about that? i have been free from jogging pants and scruffy hippy beards for a whole week. What sucks the big one? Charles De Galle is almost Altanta airport bad. Like Whoa.
Last summer, the day after the biggest music festival of the year, we decided to shoot a video for Saintwoods.com author Barletta‘s popband the Mak3out. I’m not sure how it was decided that the day after Time festival was a good date to shoot and at the time I was seriously doubting that a single person would show up… But friendship, loyalty and the fear of pissing off Barletta’s manager, all-around badass Anna Von, was enough incentive to corral up a string of Toronto’s finest party animals. With maybe 24 hours of sleep between 30 people we got to re-enacting a more pg-13 version of the last night’s party. Basically the plot of this video pretty much summed up the actual events of the day as our house was invaded by a huge crew of hipsters in full emo gear. But underneath the black eyeliner and the Rugby shirts everyone basically loves a good kegger and the day turned out to be a blast as everyone bonded over liquor, pizza and Barletta’s super catchy pop track.
All in all, I think for one of the first videos put out by Saintwoods director in residency, the esteemed Ray Klonsky, it turned out pretty good… Who knows maybe teenyboppers everywhere will soon be humming the lyrics and putting posters of Barletta up in their bedrooms
Man has this song grown on me, as of late. Definitely loving the interesting and unique direction they are taking with their music videos and overall aesthetic for their upcoming album, tons of friends. Still waiting to get my hands on a solid copy of this track to start to play out in my sets. What’s everyone’s thoughts on the song and video? Remember Crookers love animals, and they also love you!
First off, this Friday @ the SAT was amazing. Big ups to my fellow bloggers Chef Brian and B. Neal, who both did a great job in the opening and closing spots. Love Thy Brother tore it up as usual and Designer Drugs played an amazing set from start to finish. I got to test out some new tracks, including an original that you’ll hear more about in the future.
Anyways, I just recently stumbled across this amazing video of MSTRKRFT and the Bloody Beetroots at this summer’s Pukkelpop. I love videos like this that really let you feel like you were there, I swear I can feel the sweaty atmosphere of the festival leaking through my laptop. I’ve heard the craziest things about the “Boiler Room” at Pukkelpop, and this video definitely gives you a little glimpse of the insanity.
On a side note, I’m getting antsy for some new MSTRKRFT.
Planet Ape‘s remix of Love My Shake does a great job of stripping it down somewhat and adding momentum to the track. Unfortunately, I have no clue who these guys are! All their myspace says is that they’re from Germany, and more tracks are coming. Stay tuned.
Brooklyn’s Terror Dactel has recently been working with Charlie Tippie on an EP that’s due out by the year’s end. Vocaloid is a preview of the duos work together. The rest is just easy to listen to when in any mood.
