Saintwoods Top 10s

We’re just 36 hours away from bidding 2010 farewell and welcoming in 2011. Like any self-respecting blog, we’ve compiled our Top 10 tracks of the year. The disparate lists cover a wide range of genres and sounds, and represent the current fragmented state of EDM. We invite you guys to post your Top 10s in the comments, so we can all debate and hate on each other.

Really though, thanks for your continued support and readership, and happy new year.

Round Table Knights feat. Ogris Debris – Say What?!

Here’s the new visual for Round Table Knights’ newest single Say What?! forthcoming on Made to Play. Major old school vibes on this one. For all the Montreal readers, Round Table Knights will be coming to town very soon for Igloofest, supported by Toronto’s own, Egyptrixx.

Joker & Terror Danjah – ‘Gully Goon Estate’

Its christmas so there hasnt been to many posts… heres a good new dubstep one from joker to get you through

ELO – EVIL WOMAN (INNER WEST SOUL EDIT)

Here’s a simple but effective edit of ELO, one of my favourite groovy 70s disco pop groups.  Really frustrating when these things are only available on limited edition vinyl in some obscure london record store, or even juno for that matter.  Guess I should start doing some of my own.

GAME OVER REMIX -FEMALE TAKEOVER [OFFICIAL VIDEO] [HD]

Uk girls seem really grimey… Worried they have really poor personal hygiene and are badlymannered. THink I’m going to stick to this side of the pond with clean nice smelling Canadian girls who sing songs in airy sopranos and don’t growl like indian sitars…. Feel like I could kill it over there since english guys are really witty but generally sunburn easily and have miserable depressing outlooks on life but kind of glad im just over in Mtl with hot Canadian girly girls (especially my girlfriend Emily in the offchance today is the once a year time she reads this blog <3 U Gurllll.)

STRAVA – DREAMIN’ OF YOU

As a gift to you all, who are all probably finally done exams, here’s a new track. Finished this one a week or so ago. If you dug Death of Diskotekk, then this is probably right up your alley, and it’s easier to listen too. I was in a housey mood and this is what came out.

So Merry Christmas, Happy belated Hanukkah, Happy Kwanzaa, Ramandan, Lets just say, Happy Holidays and enjoy the new track.

One of my crazy friends made this music video.  Check out jeffrey Danson for more food-influenced comedy.

James Blake Album Details Released

If 2010 was anyone’s year, it was that of 21 year old producer James Blake, who’s found himself atop many year end lists. With the CMYK EP on R&S, the world was introduced to an incredibly forward thinking sound which was quickly (and possibly wrongly) labelled Post-Dubstep, and championed by DJs and music lovers around the world. Just as the trend hoppers began to jump on to this new bandwagon, Blake released a number of vastly different tracks showcasing just where musical ability and completely open mind can take a producer. Along with contemporaries like Mount Kimbie, Ramadanman, as well as the Hessle, Swamp 81 and Night Slugs camps, 2010 saw the final walls that divided the fragmented sects of UK bass music come crumbling down. 2011 will certainly be a great year for the “hardcore continium”, with 140 no longer the defacto BPM of choice, and with producers willing to wear their vast influences proudly on their sleeves.

Brodinski – The Best of Everything Vol. II

Last night the internet was a blaze with talks of Brodinski’s latest installment of “The Best of Everything” mixtape series, following some tweets from the man himself. Unlike the first installment which featured a two part mix, featuring Hip-Hop and Electro selections, the second installment compiled a batch of fresh remixes of mainstream tracks by a bunch of the biggest up and comers. The entire tracklist as well as previews can be seen at XLR8R, and the mix can be downloaded here.

Bob Sinclar – New New New (Avicci Remix)

Avicci seems to be the biggest rising star in dance music right now… I also see him as maybe one of the last nails in the coffin of electro. With guys like Deadmau5 and Wolfgang Gartner nailing the elctro/prog/house and now young guys like avicci bringing young guys and girls alike over to the house side and all the old stadium rock electro guys sucking I’d say that’s it over for the whole 2006-2008 electro years. And thank god that shitty dutch house era is over and tech house has its backers but  doesnt have that same mainstream appeal for obvious reasons which I’m sure its supporters are more than happy with…. DnB, Dubstep, Drumstep has taken over for the rowdy crowd and to me is getting better and better…. and amazing musical house like this is back in business for everyone else.  Well I’ll still always miss those years of MSTRKRFT and Justice, mixing rock and electronic music seamlessly and running the show but thank god musicality has won over in the end over bloopety beepy bendy leads, drum sample packs and stupid ethnic samples.
