MORGAN ZARATE – HOOKID

Morgan Zarate has been stirring up a lot of word around the recent release of his Hookid EP on Kode 9′s label Hyperdub.

For all of you interested in bass music, you’ll enjoy this track. He began as a hip hop producer and now he’s coming on to the bass music scene, which I think will soon take over Dubstep. If you liked this hip hop influenced track keep your eyes peeled for his full length album soon.

BIOBLITZ

Bioblitz.  Real heavy and real glitchy..  I know nothing about Bioblitz besides that he is french and used to play in a live band.  But these tracks are hard as nails and that’s all I need.  While this style is becoming a little bit cliche and somewhat of a guilty pleasure, I can’t deny the rush that it still gives me when done right.

Wiz Khalifa – Say Yeah (Love Thy Brother Remix)

Here’s a preview of our first track off our new mixtape… We’ve got over fifteen brand new tracks dropping off the mixtape… thats right 15!  Its got everything from Dub step to House to progressive house to rap to electro to RNB…. and we think you guys are going to feel it

This is a remix of WIz Khalifa’s track Say Yeah.  We’re huge fans of the guy so it seemed natural.

The cool thing for us about doing this track was experimenting with instruments way outside the normal electronic range.  We created pianos, Trumpets, Trombones, violins, electric guitars and other ‘live’ instruments to give the song that big band feel and then mixed that with more standard electronic sounds.  We have nothing against samples but with all the technology out there now its sick to be able to get the sound of a real live vintage orchestra but not be limited to someone eleses melody.  Hopefully you guys are feeling it.

CUT COPY – NEED YOU NOW

“Need You Now,” the lead song off of Cut Copy’s forthcoming album Zonoscope recalls Joshua Tree era U2 in the best way possible.  I know for some that may be a turnoff, but I love the combination of the slowly building instrumentation and epic vocals (which steal the show here).  Hushed and resigned at the beginning, Dan Whitford’s voice climbs the octave as the song builds to reveal something more like desperation.  Stream “Need You Now,” at Pitchfork, and watch for the album to drop in early February.  I may or may not have a full quality mp3 of this song, so if you’re going to the showcase on Saturday expect to hear it!

PTRJON – ADDICTED

Just got sent this track from the frontman of Lets go to War, produced by Al-P of MSTRKRFT….tell me what you think… Heres the press release:

“Since the release of the critically lauded ‘Karmageddon’ on Lastgang Records, Peter-John has been a busy man.

JAMES BLAKE – LIMIT TO YOUR LOVE

James Blake never ceases to amaze me. If you know who he is I’m sure you’ve already heard this but fuck it, i’m feeling this track right now. He did a killer cover of Feist’s Limit to Your Love, and as you may know I’m a sucker for anything Feist. He’s a dope producer and he sings too which makes him that much cooler. He’s generally a dub producer but here’s a cool example of him mashing up his vocals with good clean dub production.

Get your subs ready.

BRIDGE & LAW

I want to introduce you guys to Bridge & Law. He’s a good friend of mine from Toronto. He just turned 18 and has been bumpin’ out bangin’ productions for a while now. He’s been producing hip hop for Dante Leon as well as working with Love Thy Brother and myself. He’s moving to Montreal next year for McGill so expect to see him soon.

Here’s some of his work. Wisdom House is a killer electro track with dubstep breaks that he recently put together just before the new year. The Idioms remix is his most recent work. He teamed up with a young Toronto singer, Annika Zee to throw down this track. And then Ruthless City is one of his older productions. A great dubstep remix with some great sampling work. I highly suggest you check it all out and welcome Bridge & Law.

Yours Truly,

Death From Above 1979 Reunite at Coachella 2011

This year’s Coachella music festival in Indio, Calif., features all the usual suspects: Arcade Fire, Kanye West Kings of Leon and The Strokes and dozens more.

But the third day of the festival features ONEHELLUVAN AMAZING SURPRISE: Death From Above 1979 will reunite for their first show since the end of 2005, when they split at the end of a tour supporting Nine Inch Nails.

Since the duo went their separate ways, singer/drummer Sebastian Grainger has released a solo record and worked with Broken Social Scene. And Bassist Jesse F. Keeler obviously started up good ol’ MSTRKRFT.

Hopefully this will mean more DFA in the future… although this also probably has another significance not too many people are talking about right now. It seems more and more likely that MSTRKRFT is no more.

JOHN ROMAN ‘SING!’ EP

John Roman’s brand new EP ‘Sing!’ came out this weekend on Idiot House Records.  I don’t want to call it tech house to scare off any rock n’ rollers out there, I don’t want to call it big room to scare off any reverber-haters, and I wouldn’t want to call it electro for all you sophisticated minimalists. I want to call it an appropriate and tasteful blend of all three.  So come one, come all, and go get it in on Beatport Here.
