WEMF 2011 Lineup

15TH ANNUAL WEMF (ITS BACK!!!!)

Ontario’s biggest Electronic music festival returns August 12-14, 2011.

And the lineup is absolutely huge with a major lean to Dupstep and DNB. Skrillex, Rusko, Nosia, FLux Pavilion Infected Muhroom and the list goes on… this looks like the most evil electronic lineup Ive ever seen.

Here’s what the organizers have to say about it.

” Expect bigger and better talent from even more electronic genres, a much bigger emphasis on art and culture and greater community involvement. Like a phoenix from the ashes, the new WEMF emerges to be much more than it was before but without forgetting from whence it came.

RECENT ROUNDUP 2

There are a lot of things I’ve considered post-worthy recently, so this is another culmination of the things that I’ve been feeling as of late.  Most of these are pretty new, but some of them are gems you may have missed.

all tracks zipped here:

I thought for a while that the Mortal Kombat soundtrack idea was a forced project that was trying to fuse two unrelated things.  However, the tracks on it are actually really good.  They would definitely be awesome to listen to while kicking some ass with triple combo street fighting moves.  The Skrillex and Run DMT tracks are both amazing:

Baraka’s Theme – Run DMT

Reptile’s Theme – Skrillex

If you haven’t heard Mord Fustang yet, he’s definitely worth checking out.  He’s got a very musical and somewhat outer-spacey take on electro house.  These are my two favorites:

Milky Way (Original Mix) – Mord Fustang

Super Meat Freeze (Original Mix) – Mord Fustang

If you’ve ever grown tired of people saying that the golden ages of music have passed, lay your wearies to rest. We are undoubtedly living through the golden age of techno bangers:

Dozer (Original Mix) – Botnek

My Lady Don’t Mind (Modek Remix) – Modek

Hysteresis (Original Mix) – Sharooz

Hatred – Gesaffelstein

I’ve loved Digitalism ever since I saw them a few years ago in Toronto. Their new track is a bit of departure from their usual style, but it’s good.

I’ve heard a few people say they weren’t “wowed” by the new Justice single. I am not one of those people. They recently put out the demo version of it, which is pretty interesting. Also, I considered Civilization to be unremixable.  It has been attempted many times and I have only found this one remix to be acceptable.

Civilization (Demo) – Justice

Civilization (DJ DLG Lazor Mix) – Justice

Calvertron has proven to be a very diverse and talented producer, and I think his latest track is my favorite yet.

Future Proof (Original Mix) – Calvertron

Here’s a funky hidden gem that I’ve been bumping a lot lately:

Horrors Of Love (Keith & Supabeatz Remix) – Ryskee

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

And finally here’s a nice little banger from Hirshee and Tonye Aganaba.

So Good (Rico Tubbs Remix) – Hirshee, Tonye Aganaba

Cassian – Getting High

I love when producers add a little bit of acid or something to a big bounce funk track. This one is done so great… Know its late but was adding it to our set for the big Montreal Easter weekend party with Wolfgang, Mark Instinct and Harvard Bass tonight. Going to be epic.

Getting High by cassian

Shambhala Music Festival 2011 Lineup

All the lineups have pretty much been released for arguably Canada’s coolest electronic music festival… Shambhala (Although Quebec’s piknck electronik might have something to say about that).

What’s obviously incredible about this party is the setting. Shambhala is held annually in early August on the pristine Salmo River Ranch, and boasts 6 uniquely themed stages.

Run free of corporate sponsorship and is funded solely by ticket sales Shambhala has grown into a legendary electronic shangrilah since its humble beginnings in 98 in the west kootenays.

Check out some of our favourite tracks from Datsik, Skrillex, Flux Pavilion

You can buy tickets on the shambhala website.

NEW DAFT PUNK TOUR OR NEW ALBUM…?

What the fuck is going on over here… last year the net was awash with rumours that Daft Punk were going to follow up Tron with some massive announcements.

The daily swarm had said that Rob Light, aka the guy who representsDaft Punk had said that they were preparing a massive tour – “This is going to be the biggest tour of next year.”

Then they took that down and offered no comment.

And french mag Lesinrocks reported that Daft Punk was recruiting musicians for their next studio album.

There have been whispers that Panda Bear is set to appear on it, as well as some musicians from Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” days.  But now I havent heard a peep in months.

So what is going on!!!!???? At least we know Justice is coming but Daft Punk… I need Daft punk!!! Something needs to happen!!!!
