Over the past year, the U.K.’s Grum has had a meteoric rise in the electronic music world. This post may be a a little slow as most everyone has blogged about him, but with a full album set to be released this year and a live show in the works there couldn’t be a better time to get familiar with Grum. The thing that really sets him apart in my eyes is the feel to his songs. It doesn’t just sound like some dude with Ableton and a laptop. There is no rigidity to the music. The mix of disco, rock, and electro blends together to form fun, happy, and at times even heavy dance music. I’m posting up two of my personal favorite tracks. The first, Grum’s remix of Adam Freeland’s track ‘Borderline.’ It has a funky bassline and a a great subtle build up that leads to an all out disco assault. Next we have an older original ‘Woah.’ I don’t even know what to call this song, its like disco/electro/rock, all I know is it is damn good. Be sure to check the ‘Heartbeats’ video at the top as well, its his latest and possibly best release to date. I guarantee the vocal loop will be stuck in your head all day. He produced his first track only a year and a half ago, so expect to see big big things from Grum in 2010 and many years into the future.
