The XX were one of the biggest indie bands last year, making a massive entrance with their debut release “xx”. For anyone who hasn’t already listened to their LP, please go out and do that immediately. Anyone who’s seen the XX live, has probably noticed the presence of an MPC-player instead of a drummer, firing their percussion. The man behind the MPCs is actually Jamie Smith, who has Production and Mixing credits on the album. He’s also the man behind the decks for all the XX dj sets. I’ve heard a few mixes by him, which really help to give an insight into some of the inspiration for the XX’s unique sound. This is definitely worth a listen for everyone, especially fans of the band.
