I’m like three days late with this post and in the internet world that is an eternity but the feud keeps escalating so I figured I would post it for anyone who is unaware as to what is going on. Mya didn’t take kindly to an in depth scathing article on her in the New York Times written by veteran reporter Lynn Hirschberg. The article is long and deals with many themes and you can read it here if you are up to the task. After the article came out, Mya posted the reporters phone number on her twitter, stating “Call me if you wanna talk to me about the NYT truth issue, I’ll [be] taking calls all day bitches.” The reporter grew a bit disgruntled after the phone ran off the hook the next day, stating it was “infuriating, not surprising. She’s a provocateur…” The article is pretty scathing. It questions what side of the Sri Lankan conflict Mya’s father was actually on, accuses her of having a negative impact on the conflict with her “one sided” political statements, questions her overall knowledge of the conflict, and insinuates that she isn’t musical nor is she in touch with her roots because she is living in “very white, very wealthy Brentwood California.” In retaliation, she has posted an apparent diss track on her record label’s website called ‘I’m a Singer,’ as well as some audio recordings from the interview.
