I may be wrong but I find that the BP oil spill may have gone over a few people’s heads, especially here in Canada far removed from the situation.
The Deepwater Horizon oil spill (also referred to as the BP oil spill, the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, the BP oil disaster or the Macondo blowout) is a catastrophically massive and ongoing oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico that is the largest offshore spill in U.S. history. Many are now calling it one of the largest oil spills in history with hundreds of millions of gallons spilled to date. The spill stems from a sea floor oil gusher that resulted from the 20 April 2010 Deepwater Horizon drilling rig explosion. The explosion killed 11 platform workers and injured 17 others.
TO give you guys a point of reference for how bad this oil spill really is The gusher is estimated to be flowing at 35,000 to 60,000 barrels of crude oil per day. For comparison, this is an amount equal to the 1989 Exxon Valdez oil spill every one to two weeks.
One thing I’ve noticed is a lack of horrific pictures of the effects of this oil spill and I think that might be part of the reason many people aren’t taking this spill as seriously as that of the Exxon Valdez spill.
Now the American government has effectively made it a felony to take pictures of oiled wildlife. I can’t believe how ridiculous that is and it leaves me sick to my stomach.
Jonathan Elinoff has rounded up rarely-seen videos and pictures of the gulf oil spill and put them all in one place: Glance through these and you’ll start to understand how truly horrific this man made environmental disaster really is.
What the fuck is Obama doing trying to cover up this disaster? And what the fuck are we doing with such an insane oil dependency in the 21st century…. Our world is warming up into an easy bake oven. We’re in a 3 trillion dollar failed war over oil…Projected total US spending on the Iraq war could cover all of the global investments in renewable power generation that are needed between now and 2030 in order to halt current warming trends. And we have so many other options. But instead of debating whether we should be even thinking about continuing offshore drilling instead we’re talking about to put safeguards in place on the oil rigs to make sure this doesn’t happen again. How about just stop drilling and use alternative energy source that are already out there, there not science fiction, we’ve got em… Fuckkkinggg use them.
So go follow the jump and check out some truly awesome examples of the outcome of human stupidity and greed in the 21st century.

So are we gonna throw a wind/water/solar/bicycle powered rave or what?
I’m working on the infrastructure. Tropical wonderlands will be purchased, bars will be built.
Far removed? How so? Almost everyone uses crude oil to some degree or another. You would have to live with your head up your ass to be totally unaware of what was going on in the US regardless of what country you live in.
Just my 50 cents on that.
This EPIC disaster makes ME that much happier that I don’t drive a car.
anklemix: Read up on wind power, it’s no nearly as helpful or environmentally friendly as people are lead to believe that it is.
Seriously disgusting and completely an outrage!
Thank you for posting this and hopefully everyone will now understand and open their eyes to the horror of the oil spill and how much our planet is suffering.
Lets all get involved and do something to stop this!!!!!!!
Its not just BP though, its every major oil company. Recently in court, other major oil companies were asked to reveal their emergency plan regarding a potential disaster like this one, and heres two responses some of them had denoted
1) Contacting deceased oil experts
2) Emergency Walrus cleaning (to which none have recorded ever existing in the gulf of mexico)
cool and relevant post conor, but I don’t think he’s trying to cover anything up, people live around the gulf and the impact has been felt tremendously. There is nothing to hide. They project that their emergency relief well won’t be done until August.
