Big news from Belgium — electro godfathers (and mashup kings) 2 Many DJ’s just announced to the BBC that they’ll be starting their own internet radio station sometime during the first half of 2010. The station (called Radio Soulwax, if you can believe it) will feature twenty four regularly updated, hour-long compilations by the Dewaele brothers. Expect a ton of great dance music from the station, but also some more mellower material suitable for home listening. Overall, sounds like the BBC’s lock on decent internet radio is about to end…Anyway, check back to Saintwoods for more news about the station and some new material Soulwax is working on!
So…I don’t know what Crookers‘ deal with animals is, but if it helps them crank out tunes like this, I’m down. Here, plucky synth lines and squelches of bass coalesce into a track that’s alot more interesting than anything else they’ve put out lately.

Brazilian husband and wife production team Mixhell recently did up Samantha Fu‘s ‘Theme From Discoteque’ with their trademark rock band inspired sound. This is a really great edit, and I highly recommend it. Also, you may know Samantha better as Soulwax/ 2 Many DJ’s. More like 2 many names.
The most unforgettable experience I ever had at a show was at the TIME MUSIC FESTIVAL watching Soulwax perform. It was held in this outdoor pavillion looking out over the beach and the water, tucked underneath these beautiful old trees…. I’ll never forget the memory, or at least the barely remembered but powerful feeling of that set….When that heavy base leading into e-talking started pumping… the strobe lights flickering wildly off the band’s immaculate white suits and shadowy faces… then the build-up starts pounding and that eerie voice kicks in ….”Its not you, its the E talking”….over and over again, getting in your chest and head, with the synths sweeping up and UP and UP…then your peaking, losing your frickin mind, jumping out of your skin and finally, just when you think you can’t take it anymore….. BAMMM! the base comes back in! the drums crash! and the blinders explode! illuminating hundreds of kids just fucking losing their minds underneath the trees and the stars………actually unbelievable.
Another unbeliavable thing is that the person who put me onto soulwax four years ago was my 14 year old brother….Id just got back from India where music for me mostly involved a mixture of sitar, tabla and the occasional Goan Trance Rave and this little pipsqueak is already listening and obssessed with Soulwax and pushing “KRACK” as the greatest anthem of 2004 (or 2005 cant remember)… needless to say he wasn’t really interested in my own forays into world music, and HAre Krishna chanting… and truthfully I wasnt that interested either and happily joined him in the world of wonderful ear-bleeding, eye popping, skin tearing eletronic stadium rock…. never looking back except for a couple nostalgic blog posts like this one!
